Become a Member

You must be at least 16 years of age to join under one of the first five of these memberships. Under 16 see the last membership type- Junior Membership.

The first three memberships, Active Crew, EMS Only and Active Social are required to acrue 200 points (through assisting with various functions, attending calls and meetings, etc.), must work 2 requested functions and/or acrue 12 training hours. These memberships are not allowed to miss more than 3 of the monthy company meetings consecutively. These memberships are eligible to vote and/or run in annual company elections, qualify for the Delaware state fire pension and the Delaware state tax credit.

Active Crew

Active Crew members engage in all facets of the department. Active crew members participate in fire suppression, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, RIT, HazMat, The many phases of Rescue and Training. Active Crew members can also become NREMT-Bs and ride our ambulances.

EMS Only

EMS Only members are members that become NREMT-Bs and only ride our ambulances. They do not ride fire apparatus or paricipate in fire scenes unless an ambulance is do to respond (Fire scene rehab, MVCs,etc.).

Active Social

Active Social membership is for those members that do not wish to engage in Fire or EMS responses. These members assist the company with hall functions, ways and means events, meetings and committees. These members are not required to respond to calls.

The next two memberships are not required to meet any of the requirements listed above, with exception to the age requirement. These members are not eligible to vote or run in the annual company elections, do not qualify for the Delaware state fire pension or the Delaware state tax credit. They are requested to participate in the monthly company meetings.

EMS Restricted

EMS Restricted membership is for those members who only wish to ride the ambulance and not have to meet the regular membership requirements or receive any of the membership benefits. These members must still maintain their certifications to be an NREMT-B.

Administrative Restricted

Administrative Restrictive membership is for those members who only wish to assist the President of the Townsend Fire Company with the administrative duties of the fire company, and not have to meet the regular membership requirements or receive any of the membership benefits.

The next membership is for those who wish to join the Townsend Fire Company but do not meet the age requirement of 16 years old. This membership is for those between 14 and 15 years of age.

Junior Membership

Junior membership is for those who are between 14 and 15 years of age who wish to join the Townsend Fire Company when they reach the required age limit. These members are associate members that are governed by the Fire Chief of the company. These members are required to make any and all in house training classes provided by the company, as well as, the Junior training night. These members can attend any open committee meeting and company function approved by the Fire Chief. These members are afforded regular members use of the building when a regular member is present in the building. This membership is considered a good step for joining the regular membership at the age of 16 years old.
