Thursday, December 31, 2015

At 0001 hours, on July 14th, the Townsend Fire Company was dispatched to a reported vehicle crash with entrapment. Rescue 26, B26 and Command 26 responded. 26 Lieutenant 1 arrived in his POV and advised that the vehicle was in the ditch, a telephone pole had been snapped off and wires were down on the ground. It was also transmitted that the patient was not pinned in the vehicle. Units arrived and worked with ALS to package the patient. While doing so, since the patients door was aimed into the ditch, it was decided that the roof of the car was going to have to be removed to safely remove the patient from the car. Command requested the next due rescue (Station 45- Clayton), and Rescue 26's crew went to work to remove the roof. One fire fighter worked the passenger side of the car and rear door with an O cutter while another firefighter worked the drverside of the car with a sawzall. Once the roof was removed, the patient was extracted onto a spine board and was transoported by B26 and Medic 5D (NCC EMS) to Christiana Hospital for futher evaluation and treatment. Command cleared Rescue 45 and placed the scene under control. Units remained on scene an additional 53 minutes taking up.
